OIRED has fine-tuned a comprehensive participatory approach to
project implementation and adapted it to sites around the world.
This approach has promoted the local sense of ownership necessary
for change to occur. OIRED currently manages eight projects worth
$46 million in
27 countries around the world. Current projects include the following
subject areas: natural resource management, integrated pest management,
information technology, biotechnology, pilot watershed activities,
capacity-building in education, and micro-enterprise development.
Projects are not limited to these areas, however. Wherever Virginia
Tech has expertise and international funding is available, OIRED may
pursue a project. |
