Experience Summary:As Associate Director for Strategic Partnerships, John’s primary goal is bringing Virginia Tech’s research experience and talent to the global development community—a contribution that strives for no less than improving lives and saving the planet. John builds partnerships within the international development community, forming teams for development programs and projects, creating and responding to funding opportunities. He is expanding the capacity of the Virginia Tech community to be responsive to donors, agencies, and funders and connecting cutting edge research to bear down on some of the most intractable problems threatening the environment, our natural heritage, and its ability to remain sustainable and productive. From wildlife conservation to global health to infrastructure and environment, John has worked among academia and public, private, and non-profit sectors to pull together teams to design and implement programs that build a long-lasting difference in countries and landscapes in most need. John has been based in San Francisco, CA, Washington, DC, Europe, and Southeast Asia, working for engineering companies, non-governmental organizations, and research institutes managing business development, resource mobilization, and partnerships.
