Impact

Our regional programs and global themes work to improve crop yields, increase incomes, protect the environment, safeguard human health, encourage entrepreneurship, and provide millions of dollars of benefits worldwide.

IMG_1981Benefiting people worldwide: Through its work, the program raises the standard of living of people in developing countries. Farmers take a risk by incorporating these techniques into their agriculture practices, but studies show it’s worth the risk: there are marked improvements in the health of farming families, increases in farmers income, and a reduction of environmental damage caused by high-toxicity pesticides. Plus, IPM techniques decrease the workload for women and children, who consequently have time to go to school and pursue other endeavors.

Private Partnership: In order to build capacity in developing countries, the IPM IL engages in private sector development through technology transfer. This means that when the program has successfully developed a method to control a crop pest, the production and marketing of the technology is turned over to private enterprises. Transferring a technology to the private sector ensures crop protection for the long term.
