IPM CRSP Regional Programs:
West African Regional Consortium of IPM Excellence
West Africa IPM web site
The
region comprising the nine countries* of the West
African CILSS (Comité Permanent Inter Etats De Lutte
Contre La Secheresse Au Sahel) is well integrated when
it comes to agricultural research and policy. This
project is developing a strong collaboration of host
country partners focused on research that is improving
the livelihoods of rural agricultural households as well
as the environments in which people live. The Sahelian
and Sudano-Guinean ecozones extend through many CILSS
countries, resulting in shared pest problems. USAID has
several missions in CILSS countries, but it has also
taken a regional approach through its USAID West Africa
regional program with offices in Ghana and Mali.
This project is a continuation of
the research activities in the West Africa IPM CRSP of
the previous 11 years. Mali is now the hub of the
program, but research activities have expanded to
Burkina Faso, The Gambia, Guinea and Senegal, resulting
in a new regionally-integrated program that reflects the
expectation by USAID and the IPM CRSP Management Entity
that the new programs truly have regional impact.
