  • Initial Environmental Evaluation (IEE):
Pesticide Evaluation Report and Safe Use Action Plan (PERSUAP)

For all IPM CRSP research plans where research using pesticides has been determined necessary in the course of implementing IPM CRSP activities, a Pesticide Evaluation Report and Safe Use Action Plan (PERSUAP) must be submitted to USAID for approval. A PERSUAP is an amendment to an Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) as required by Part 216 of the Title 22 Code of Federal Regulations, in order to ensure protection of both humans and the environment under USAID-funded programs.

Providing locally available alternatives to traditional chemical pesticides is important to the IPM CRSP and essential to the success of IPM programs. If farmers are unsure that new pest management tactics will work, they will just continue to use pesticides. For this reason, research projects are conducted to show why and how IPM techniques can be better than older practices. In this research, small amounts of chemicals (pesticides) are necessary as experimental controls
