Here is a snapshot of this publication:

  • Published since: October 1993 without interruption

  • Distributed: free to all who request it

  • Frequency: published every 6 weeks

  • E-mail subscribers: 5,749

  • Number of subscriber countries: 151, with the addition of Algeria, Iraq, and Macedonia in 2007.

  • Type of subscriber organizations: all major U.S. land grant institutions with crop pest management activities, including the four U.S. Regional Pest Management Centers; all CGIAR international agricultural research centers involved with crop protection, plus several non‑CGIAR international centers such as AVRDC and CATIE; World Bank; Asian Development Bank; FAO; USAID missions; USDA (especially ARS and APHIS personnel); and dozens of agricultural research-extension centers, both governmental and private sector, worldwide; and many recipients representing NARS (national agricultural research systems)

  • Format: published as a direct-to-subscriber e-mail in English

  • Other outlets: numerous smaller pass-along networks and informal arrangements share the file for each IPMnet NEWS issue with specific sub-groups

  • Total viewership: adding together e‑mail subscribers, plus those connected to sub‑networks, and those who see republication of portions of the NEWS by others translates into each issue of the NEWS being viewed on an estimated 6,000+ computer screens worldwide, and in partial form on an additional 2,000

  • Funding: comes from grants from USDA’s CSREES IPM Extension section and from USAID’s IPM-CRSP, plus hosting and supplemental funding from OSU’s IPPC

  • Collaboration: the International Association for the Plant Protection Sciences (IAPPS) requests IPMnet NEWS e-mail subscriptions for all new members of the Association; the International Society for Pest Information (ISPI) polls all its nearly 7,000 global participants for their interest in subscribing to IPMnet NEWS, leading to many of them opting to become subscribers

  • Calendar: IPMnet maintains the IPMnet CALENDAR as the single most comprehensive, regularly revised, multi-disciplinary global listing of IPM/crop protection-related events (symposia, conferences, short courses) freely available

  • Formalities: IPMnet NEWS has an assigned ISSN (international standard serial number), and is covered under U.S. copyright.

  • Format: The NEWS’ e-mail version remains consistent and readily recognizable, although the contents and organization of sections continue to evolve with small tweaks in almost every issue; this style was adopted to be readable by computer systems that may not have access to a wide range of programs; it also avoids many of the current e-mail and Windows-associated viruses and worms, and it is relatively quick and easy to access without a long download delay.

  • Regular Features: Specific sections uniquely devoted to coverage of the USDA-CSREES  Regional IPM Centers and USAID’s IPM-CRSP appear in almost every issue of the NEWS; other sections report on current publications, websites, CDs, and other information sources related to IPM and crop pest management.

  • Web version: NEWS issues from #16 up to present have been configured in HTML at http://www.ipmnet.org/IPMNews/main_page.html on the IPPC website.

  • Uniqueness: IPMnet believes that there still is no other free, regularly periodic, internationally distributed electronic newsletter singularly devoted to dissemination of current, broad-scope IPM and crop pest management information.
