Membership
Individuals who have
demonstrated scholarly achievement in the international area are
eligible to be nominated for membership in Phi Beta Delta. There
are three categories of members:
International Students
1.Upper division (60 hrs)
or graduate standing
2. Minimum of one year residence at Virginia Tech
3.Demonstrated academic excellence: Graduate Students (QCA 3.6),
Undergraduate Students (QCA 3.5)
U.S. Students
1.Upper division or graduate standing
2. Completion of a minimum of one semester of study abroad or
a summer experience of approximately five weeks and approved by
Virginia Tech's Director of International Exchange Programs
3. Demonstrated academic excellence: Graduate Students (QCA 3.6),
Undergraduate Students (QCA 3.5)
Faculty and Staff
1. Nomination by two members in good standing.
2.Demonstrated interest and involvement in international scholarly
activities (e.g. Fulbright, research, service or teaching overseas,
publications/presentations, significant contribution to campus
international education programs).
Benefits
of membership
The most significant benefits are the recognition
for scholarly achievement in the international area and the networking
of individuals involved in international endeavors. In addition
to participation in campus programs, members belong to a national
organization which holds an annual conference, publishes a bi-annual
newsletter, annual scholarly journal, and awards several national
scholarships to outstanding members. Members receive a decorative
bronze Phi Beta Delta Medallion and a membership certificate during
their campus initiation ceremony.
