Visiting Non-Us Scholars

The Fulbright program is a scholarship program that allows American students or faculty to study or conduct research in over 100 different nations. The program is sponsored by the US Information Agency in cooperation with bi-national Fulbright commissions and Foundations abroad as well as US embassies. The program is designed to give recent B.S./B.A., masters and doctoral candidates, and young professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. Grantees plan their own programs. Projects may include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in music conservatory or art school, special projects in social or life sciences, or a combination thereof.

Fulbright grants generally provide round-trip transportation; language or orientation courses, where appropriate; tuition, in some cases; books and research allowances; maintenance for the academic year, based on living costs in the host county; and supplemental health and accident insurance.

Faculty interested in additional information or application procedures should contact S. K. De Datta at the Office of International Research, Education, and Development at 231-5888 or dedatta@vt.edu . The deadline for faculty applications is the second week of August each year.
