Experience summary: Dr. Guilbaud is an educator and researcher with more than 18 years of functional and consulting experience. He is an expert in eLearning, mLearning (handhelds/pocket PCs/PDAs), blended learning, and adult instruction.

Before coming to Virginia Tech, Dr. Guilbaud worked as a program manager, management consultant, and systems analyst/engineer for more than 10 years. Throughout that time, much of his work focused on large-scale, critical telecommunications, healthcare management, and social welfare software development and implementation projects.

As Program Director for Information Technology in International Education, Dr. Guilbaud’s primary goal is to strengthen the department’s capabilities in ICT, distance learning, and online management training initiatives with a global focus. Currently, Dr. Guilbaud is focused on the discovery of instructional approaches, techniques, and insights that will improve online-based instruction and professional training. He is particularly interested in evaluating the benefits and challenges associated with extending learning opportunities to diverse populations through the use of advanced and distributed learning platforms.

Dr. Guilbaud has developed and taught courses, workshops, and seminars at international sites and at the University of Virginia via distance learning methods. He is an expert in the areas of information technology, project management, instructional design, learning theory, systems analysis/design, healthcare informatics, risk management, and decision analysis.
