Steps to
Study Abroad
1 Meet
with a peer advisor in the Education Abroad Office to get your
study abroad handbook
2 Select
a program
3
Apply to
your chosen program
4
Submit a
copy of your acceptance letter to our office, non-VT programs
5 Obtain
credit approval
6
Complete the financial aid paperwork
7
Obtain a
passport
8
Obtain a
student visa
9 Do not
register for classes the semester you are gone! If you have,
drop your courses to avoid being billed for tuition. You'll
have
to withdraw from
VT, but if you are not gone for more than three consecutive
semesters, you will still be a VT student and will not need to
reapply. While you are away, you are considered to be on a
leave of absence.
10 Notify
Residential & Dining Programs of your plans to leave and/or
return to on-campus housing

Purchase airfare

Confirm health insurance coverage
13 Leave
your international address with our office and your parents

Make all
payments to VT or your sponsoring institution
15
Organize money for your travel
16 Attend
the Pre-Departure Orientation held at Virginia Tech by the
Education Abroad Office. You must inform us if you cannot attend, because you need forms and
information from this event. |
