Study Abroad

Your interest in study abroad is to be commended. Studying abroad will help you see the world from a completely new perspective and develop new skills, independence, and self-confidence. You will also set yourself apart from other job seekers when you graduate. Only 4% of undergraduates have studied abroad! This is your chance to spend a summer, a semester, or a year abroad. Whether you want to study in English or in a foreign language, you will be able to find an opportunity that suits you.

Finding a program based on academic content

Listed below are links to descriptions of different types of programs. It is a myth that studying abroad will delay graduation. If you begin to plan early and work with your academic advisor, you should be able to find classes abroad that will help you fulfill Virginia Tech degree or major requirements. Staff in Education Abroad can work with you to find a program that fits your needs and interests.

We encourage you to explore the "advising grids" we have developed that show courses available in specific disciplines. The focus in these grids is on bilateral student exchanges. Additional grids are also available in ISEP publications and brochures developed by non-VT program providers (you can pick these up in 1820 Litton Reaves).
